There is a bug in Internet Explorer (MS article
810978) that affects the photo gallery. When you view a picture
and save it to your hard drive using the "Right Click Save Picture
As" feature in Internet Explorer, you may be presented with
unknown filename and the "Save As Type" will be BMP.
This is incorrect.
All of the pictures in the photo gallery have
been compressed and uploaded as JPG files to allow dial-up
users to download the pictures efficiently. These files are
<50kb each. The same files with the type BMP, will be 10 times
greater (600-900kb) in size.
The error is in the Internet Explorer Temporary
Files Cache. If you experience this situation follow these
instructions.
1) Select Tools and then
Internet Options from your Internet Explorer Menu bar.
2) In the middle of the drop down menu
labeled "Temporary Internet Files", select the Delete
Files button. This deletes the temporary files cache that has
filled up.
3) Close the tools menu. Go
back into the gallery, select a picture and Right Click - Save
Picture As. The correct filename should appear and the type
will be JPG.
